Traveling to Las Vegas could be another way to get high-speed internet.

Next week, Google Fiber may be given the go-ahead to begin constructing its infrastructure and offering more internet options to some Las Vegas locals.

At their meeting on February 6, the Clark County Commission will hear a request from Google Fiber to approve a franchise agreement that would allow it to expand its operations into the unincorporated areas of the county. In the event that this agreement is approved, Google Fiber will be able to begin designing and building its fiber optic network.

In 2022, Google Fiber initially declared that it would be entering Nevada and four other states. Although the company did not initially say which parts of Nevada it would serve, it now appears that parts of Las Vegas will be the first to receive Google Fiber service.

In an email, a Google Fiber representative stated, “We’re hopeful that the Clark County Commission will approve our franchise agreement—that will allow us to start the construction process in unincorporated Clark County, Nevada.” “We’re excited about next week’s vote and, in the end, providing the Las Vegas metro area with fast, dependable internet.”

Public documents on the franchise agreement did not specify which neighborhoods would be eligible for Google Fiber’s services, nor did they provide a timeframe for when the service would be available to the general public.

The starting monthly price for Google Fiber’s 1 gigabit per second plan is $70, but both the cost and the speed of the internet are subject to increase.
